It is the winter solstice and the first day of winter today. What better time to show you my winter stitched stories hanging at Omineca Arts Centre this month?
These are three of my stitched stories - slightly larger than the postcards I am making for the 2020 Hindsight project or that we made in the Stitch Your Story virtual workshop on Saturday (more on that later). From left to right they are: Snow Fun, Moonrise, and Windy Whistler.
Snow Fun (2012) 8” x 8”. Fabric and thread; machine
appliquéd and quilted; stretched over wooden frame.
Children, snow and sleds. What more needs to be said?
Moonrise (2016)
9” x 9”. Fabric and thread; machine appliquéd and quilted;
stretched over wooden frame.
We lived in Whistler for 6 years after leaving Prince Rupert and before moving to Prince George. One of my favourite memories is of taking a walk on a snowy evening and watching the moon rise over the mountain tops. The halo effect was magical.
Windy Whistler (2012) 8” x 8”. Fabric and thread; machine appliquéd and quilted; stretched over wooden frame.
The top of Whistler Mt. is windy and has beautiful views. The Inukshuk is a memento of the 2010 Olympics. You’ll need a good head for heights to see it, though – getting there requires a ride in an open ski-lift chair!
