First Studio Day

Well, that was fun! I had my first studio day at Omineca Arts Centre today. It was quiet — I think most people are staying close to home now, with the heightened Covid-19 restrictions, and that's as it should be. I used my time today to finish installing the artwork (some of it was tricky to install) and then sat down for a nice cup of tea and worked on my residency project (more on that another day). I think it's the first time I've had to relax in over a week!

The current plan is that I'll be back at Omineca again on Friday, the 11th, from 9am - 1pm, and on Saturday, the 12th, from 1 - 4pm.

For those of you who want to see the exhibition, but cannot come to Omineca, I'll be posting images of the artworks on this blog over the coming month. It may not be the same as seeing things in person, but it's the next best thing, for sure.

Here's a recap of yesterday and the installation:

It was a busy day — I spent almost all day setting up the space. The mountainous pile that filled up my room at home seemed quite small in comparison, once it reached the Centre. Many thanks to my husband, who, although sporting some pulled muscles, valiantly lifted and carried trunks and totes from house to car and out again.

I spent the first little while hemming and hawing while wandering around, envisioning what things could look like once they were set out.  It was like looking at a blank canvas - so much potential!

I'd say that I started hauling things out of bags and boxes at around 10:30/11am and by 4pm had things pretty much set out the way I liked. There were a few things left to do, but by then it was time to head home for a cup of tea!

I went to bed tired, but happy. The place looked better than I had hoped. It's going to be a fun month!
