Greetings from a sometimes blogger. Two years have come and gone since my last entry. Where DOES the time go?
2023 passed with a sad ending and 2024 was full of flus and colds, so the energies were perhaps lower than usual for keeping this blog going. It doesn’t mean idleness on my part, though 😉
I found a job… two, in fact. Both are part-time and theoretically leave time in my days to do other things. With the Academy puppet assignments out of the way, I looked at my wish list of things to do and gravitated away from making sawdust for a while. I made a long-overdue cuddle quilt, a couple of couch cushions,
finished a raven quilt made at Quilt Canada 2022, took an online puppet therapy course and explored our new home with trips to beaches, forests and small islands offshore. I’ve also been in three group shows at the Pearl Ellis Gallery since arriving in Comox and received one People’s Choice Award for my triptych, “What Story will you Tell”.
Our yard is gorgeous and has encouraged us to embrace the art of gardening, which means much outside time digging in the dirt as we weed, sort, organize, thin, plant and more. While I enjoy the time I spend out there (the smell of the flowers, the warble of the birds, the signs of raccoon visits in the middle of the night), I have grown to dislike morning glory, rogue blackberry vines and stork's bill – at least in my yard!
In January and February of this year, I worked with participants at L’Arche Comox Valley to create puppets during their 10th Annual Art of Belonging program. It was a fun experience, and I enjoyed my time there.
Now one job is on pause until September, and I have the summer relatively wide open to dive back into making sawdust. I think I’ll shake out that idea I had for a puppet show a few years back and see how much progress I can make on it. I cut blocks last week for one of the required puppets and hope to start doing the rough cuts on it in the next day or two.
